Fluffy and Soft! Plush Toys for Your Child

Plush toys, like Teddy bears, are soft and cuddly fully living up to the name plush. Dog toys, dolls, dinosaurs, and even plush
dragon toys give children a range of potential animal and character "friends." Children's plush toys are generally much-loved favorites. From small cuddly bed toys to large plush toys almost the size of the child himself, these items are perennial childhood favorites.

Some Popular Plush Toys

The wide variety of plush toys on the market from the traditional and comforting bear to popular children's characters like Bob the Builder give parents and children a near limitless choice. Some of the more popular children's plush toys include:
  • Beanie Babies
  • Gund and Baby Gund animals
  • Disney characters (Mickey Mouse, Dumbo, and others)
  • Winnie the Pooh and associated characters
  • Panda bears
  • Shrek characters
  • Curious George
  • Sesame Street characters
  • Finding Nemo characters
  • Care Bears

What Are Plush Toys Made of?

Plush dog toys and other similar figures can be filled with such materials as straw, beans, and cotton although polyester fiber is now more prevalent. The exterior covering can be a range of materials but at least some portion of the figure will be covered in synthetic faux fur or "plush" of varying "piles" or densities. There are consumer safety standards for materials that are used in plush toys. If the item's label does not indicate that those standards have been met and does not list all materials used in the product, do not assume the toy is safe for your child.

How Can Plush Toys Be Used?

Plush toys can be used in a variety of different ways according to the personality of the child. Some potential uses include:
  • Providing a sleeping companion
  • Being used as a baby pillow
  • Serving as a character in role-playing games
  • Allowing a child to interact with a favorite character
  • Allowing children to dress and "take care" of the toy

Benefits of Plush Toys

Some of the other benefits of plush toys include:
  • A decorative function in a child's bedroom
  • A source of comfort for a nervous or distressed child
  • soft, safe toy that won't harm children even if thrown
